Welcome

Welcome to this new initiative to create an electronic grass-roots community of progressive people who want to improve life for all Kentuckians. For too long, Kentucky has ranked near the bottom in terms of public health, education, child welfare, economic opportunity, environmental conservation, and social justice.

Most of you know me because of my work for over 18 years with the Kentucky Council of Churches. You knew me as a voice for an articulate and balanced perspective on public policy, and as one who would stand up for justice for all. I am now retired, as of June, 2009, and want to continue to use my experience and knowledge to help my fellow citizens create a new landscape of social realities for the people of our beloved Commonwealth.

This website will provide regular information about issues before the Kentucky General Assembly and confronting our nation. It will also include my position, with my reasoning and supportive data where possible, on these issues, and invite your response in the comments. Often, the website will refer to religious traditions and religious perspectives on matters that impact the common good. My aim will be to encourage interfaith dialogue and understanding in the process. From time to time, I will invite guest bloggers to submit their contributions to the site.

I reserve the right to edit those comments, not to censor ideas that are contrary to mine, but to prevent the use of inappropriate language or name-calling, neither of which are particularly helpful when it comes to civil discourse.

Finally, the web-site will provide you with an opportunity to take action, as you are so inclined, on particular issues confronting our Commonwealth and the nation. There will be no tracking of your response, but I will need you to subscribe to my action-alert e-mail list. You will be able to unsubscribe at any point.

More information will be available on the various menus that you will find on the left side of this page.
